Flint youth new watchdogs

News Movement is a nonpartisan Michigan based journalism education program, developed under 20 Books Inc., an incentive-based pro-literacy 501(c)3 nonprofit founded in 2011, that works with news industry leaders including writers, photographers, videographers, graphic designers and web developers to teach and engage middle school and high school students about the news industry, newsroom roles and how to use various platforms.
Flint’s after-school program, housed at the Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village, uses classroom, after-school and e-learning programs to engage students in journalism and to teach them various journalistic skills. News Movement also teaches young people how to evaluate the credibility of news and information as a student, consumer, and citizen. The program is designed to be implemented in underserved communities like Flint, Mich. If you are between ages 12 and 17, you can apply. The classes are free and students who complete our program earn completion certificates and more. If you’re interested in joining News Movement, please complete our application form.
